Lunch & Learn: What is A Stroke?

Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio, a joint venture between Premier Health and Encompass Health, understands the effects of a stroke are as unique as the individual. Joint Commission Stroke certified hospital and Jerry Shields, COTA/L and Rehab Liaison, will give a presentation that will include information on what a stroke is, risk factors, typical signs and symptoms, and what do to initially if you think someone is having a stroke. Additionally, Shields cover typical medication side effects, the importance of controlling heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugars. The class discusses typical prognosis of stroke, the purpose of rehabilitation, and strategies to increase movement and improve cognition after a stroke.
